Director of education at the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK), Amy Laflin, shares the upcoming networking and educational opportunities for pharmacy technicians

APTUK hold events throughout the year which support personal development and can also be used as part of your revalidation submission.

October events

On 5 October APTUK will be hosting the national branch meeting where we will be looking at and discussing revalidation. This meeting will be facilitated by our Sussex branch committee members. Places can be booked via the APTUK member website (aptuk.org).

We will be holding a webinar for Black History Month on 11 October with our guest speaker Dr Stuart Lawrence. Stuart promotes and advocates for equality, diversity and inclusion and will be talking about tools and resources to enable us to improve patient care, as well as his own personal experiences. You can also book your place through the APTUK member website.

Finally, 18 October marks Pharmacy Technician Day and we are currently working on our plans so do keep an eye on our social media pages and website.

Pharmacy Show 2022

APTUK executive committee members will be attending the Pharmacy Show 2022 on 16-17 October. This event is for pharmacy professionals and it allows for networking and educational opportunities that support revalidation as well as continued professional development. This year is the first year there is a Pharmacy Technician Theatre at the event, which will be hosted by Alison Hemsworth FAPharmT, chair of the APTUK Community Pharmacy Branch, who has worked hard to make this theatre happen. This show is open to all pharmacy professionals but will have lots of education and development opportunities for those working in community pharmacy specifically. The pharmacy show is held in the NEC in Birmingham, book your place now and don’t forget to come and visit us on the APTUK stand: L31.

Education strategy

APTUK not only offer and host support through educational webinars and inclusive learning, we also accredit pharmacy technician education and courses through the use of our frameworks – which currently include primary care and accuracy checking. As part of the 2022-26 strategy, APTUK will be working on frameworks that support pharmacy technicians with both foundation and advanced practice.

As part of the education strategy, we will also be supporting and offering further educational events both to support pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians (PTPTs) and pharmacy technicians. If you would like to be involved in supporting or delivering an educational session for pharmacy technicians, please don’t hesitate to email me: educationdirector@aptuk.org.
